1950s Cuban Burlesque at the Triad
Triad Theatre 158 W 72nd St, New York, NY

$20 entry 2 drink minimumGet tickets here. Vintage & vintage inspired attire is encouraged

On Friday, December 16th, 2011, we’re presenting an opulent tribute to 1950s Havana Cuba. It’ll be a unique night of latin themed song and dance and beautifully sophisticated burlesque, taking our guests on a journey back to when Cuba was synonymous with mystery and romance. On a cold December night, Tropicana will be the perfect place to take that special someone and turn up the heat with scorching salsa beats and a sexy vintage spectacle.
The once-in-a-blue-moon lineup will include the eternally charming host Bastard Keith, Medianoche (as recently seen on tour with Dita Von Teese), Grace Gotham (singer and seductress), La Maia, Beelzebabe, Hazel Honeysuckle, Kita St. Cyr and a special finale featuring The Rhinestone Follies with Ginger Brown and Cheeky Lane.
In the TV show I Love Lucy, Ricky Ricardo worked as a band leader for a Cuban-themed Manhattan nightclub called The Tropicana. It was a dream in Technicolor: classic cars and cigars, a world where every day is a beautiful tropical summer, every night was shrouded in mystery and romance, and every stage was covered in flowers and show girls.
On December 16th 2011 at 9:30 pm, The Rhinestone Follies will transform The Triad into that land of wonder by presenting an evening of early 20th Century inspired burlesque entertainment with a distinct twist of 1950s Havana. Medianoche, Grace Gotham, La Maia, Beelzebabe, Hazel Honeysuckle, Kita St. Cyr and The Rhinestone Follies featuring Ginger Brown and Cheeky Lane will present burlesque tributes to the Caribbean showgirls of yesteryear as host Bastard Keith sings his way into your hearts.
Tropicana will appeal to a wide audience. Young women interested in discovering burlesque for the first time, couples looking for an evening of romantic entertainment, cigar aficionados, vintage culture buffs, burlesque fans, lovers of Latin Jazz and everyone in between are all invited to enjoy this glamourous experience.
The Triad is a jewelbox theatre located at 158 W 72nd St in Manhattan’s glamourous Upper West Side. The stage has been graced by Tony Danza, Rosie Perez and Lucy Arnaz. It’s host to a myriad of wonderful shows, including Celebrity Autobiography, Erotic Broadway: Vintage Variety and Coup De Grace. It may be steps away from the winter wonderland that is Central Park in December, but on the evening of Tropicana it will feel more like 1950s Havana.
Visitors travel up the stairs and back in time as they enter the intimate 130 seat art deco inspired theatre, the smell of freshly ground coffee filling the warm, tropical air. When seated, they’ll enjoy at least two of any of the Triad’s delicious beverages, including the signature cocktail The Tropicanito, an espresso martini concocted especially for Tropicana.

This Friday!
A new inspiration http://ooshoosh.tumblr.com/
My curfew was lightning bugs. My parents didn’t call my cell, they yelled my name. I played outside with friends, not online. If I didn’t eat what mom cooked, then I didn’t eat. Sanitizer didn’t exist, but you COULD get your mouth washed out with soap. I rode a bike without a helmet. Getting dirty was ok, and neighbors gave a darn as much as your parents did. Re-blog if you drank from a garden hose and survived!
A little mystery for a tired soul. (me)
